Overview: Hakama can be divided or undivided. In Japan they are known as umanori. They are often worn with kosode and this pair is meant to be worn over one.
Construction: These hakama are machine made. The oblong plastic tab (see detail image) at center back (aka toggle) is tucked into the obi to help keep everything in place.
Provenance: Gift to the Department of Dramatic Art from Tom Hardison who collected them when he lived in Japan in the late 20th century.
