Green Velvet Ensemble

Overview: This green silk velvet bodice and skirt was made in Baltimore, Maryland by Joel Gutman and Co. as noted on the labels in the bodice and skirt. It is c. 1902.

Provenance: Woven labels in skirt and bodice read Joel Gutman and Co. Baltimore, Maryland.

Damage: This ensemble is in good condition. The original waistband is missing and it seems to have been shortened from the original length, being stitched by machine through all layers for the new hem. The lining of the bodice near the neckline and inside the sleeves is tearing, and on the outside of the garment fabric underneath the main section of the jacket is shattering. The skirt is in great condition, and the embroidery and decoration on the bodice and skirt is still very beautiful.
