Construction: The base fabric is plain cotton, dyed indigo blue. It has been embroidered by hand, mainly cross-stitched. The skirt is cartridge-pleated and the solid blue portion of the bodice is crudely made - a replacement for the original bodice. The apron, sleeves and skirt are original but the rest of the bodice is a replacement. It is for a very small woman. Even placed on this size 2 dress form, the skirt does not close at center back, much less overlap as it would be worn.
Trim: Hand-embroidered.
Provenance: From the collection of Bobbi Owen who purchased the three pieces in Saigon, Vietnam in January 2006.
Damage: The garment has been well worn and the waist bands on the skirt and apron are frayed. The sleeves are beautiful and a matched set but the solid blue bodice is crudely made and obviously only a way to attach the sleeves.
